A Teachers' Strike occurred throughout The Czech Republic on Monday, November 27th 2023
Our Wonderland Academy School remained open and classes and the school community were not interrupted in order to protect the children and their families from inconvenience. Our assistants joined the march in Prague and the demonstration on Malostranské náměstí on behalf of the Wonderland teaching staff. We want to express our disagreement with the government's intention to limit the funding of some important areas of education. As a result of government cuts, there would be a reduction in the division of classes into groups (in which education is more efficient), an increase in the number of pupils in classes, and a reduction in optional subjects. A reduction in funding for teaching assistants would jeopardize the education of children with special educational needs. Another negative consequence would be a reduction in the number of non-teaching staff, which would, for example, limit the quality and availability of school meals. Therefore, the reason for the strike is not teachers' salaries, but an effort to prevent a general reduction in education spending. Thank you for your support.
